Ronald E. Jacoby, 65, died Saturday, July 21, 2012, at a hospital in Ida Grove, Iowa.

Services will be 10 a.m. Wednesday at Armstrong Chapel in Mapleton, Iowa, with the Rev. Catie Newman presiding. Burial will be in Liston Township Cemetery in Danbury, with military rites conducted by Carlson Frum Legion Post 336 of Danbury. Visitation will be 4 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home.

Ronald Eugene Jacoby was born in Sioux City on May 20, 1947, to Benedict and Betty Colleen (Burkhart) Jacoby. He attended school in Mapleton. On June 6, 1966, he enlisted in the Army. He served his country in Germany. He took a leave of absence so that he could marry his true love, Bonnie Lorraine Grell, on Sept. 21, 1967. She returned to Germany with him. Upon receiving his honorable discharge in May of 1969, the couple moved to Danbury. Bonnie passed away on January 31, 2001.

Ron worked at Barry Motor for 10 years. He then spent 23 years at Farmland in Denison, retiring in 2002. Shortly thereafter he began working for the city of Danbury on a part-time basis. He took pride in his work, most notably keeping the park well groomed for Little League ball games.

Ron enjoyed camping and getting together with friends to play cards. He was a member of the Danbury Fire Department.

Survivors who will cherish Ron’s memory include his sons, Scott of Danbury, and Eric and his wife, Michele of Elk Point, S.D.; three grandchildren, Samantha and Amber Jacoby and Michael Jacoby; a great-grandson, Evan Zimmerman; two brothers, Rick and Randy, both of Mapleton; and a sister, Kay and her husband, Ronald Uhl of Mapleton.

Ron was preceded in death by his parents, Benedict and Betty Jacoby; and by his wife, Bonnie Jacoby.

Pallbearers are Michael Jacoby, Kevin Prell, Dennis Boysen, Brandon Meyer, Greg Pithan, and Mike Boyle.
