5 February 1959Frank Stoneking, Standard Oil Co. agent in Primghar the past 10 years, succumbed to a lingering illness Sunday morning, January 25, 1959. Funeral services were held at the Congregational Church Wednesday, January 28, at 1:30 p.m. with Rev. Robert Lea of Grace Lutheran Church officiating. Burial was made in the Correctionville Cemetery.
Franklin Charles Stoneking, son of Mr. and Mrs. William Stoneking, was born July 30, 1905, at Cushing. He received his formal education at the Cushing school, graduating from high school and later attending business college at Sioux City.
For several years he operated a plumbing an heating business in Correctionville, where he met and married Ferne Huss on June 28, 1941, at Bucklin, MO. During World War II he served in the Merchant Marine and upon his return home accepted a position with the Standard Oil Co. at Webster City where he was employed 4 years before coming to Primghar in 1948 as that company's agent until his death. He became a member of the Primghar Volunteer
Fire Dept. in 1948 and was that organization's secretary and treasurer from August 1952 until August 1957.He served as president of the Chamber of Commerce and had been a member of the town council for the past 3 years. Mr. Stoneking was a member of Grace Lutheran Church in Primghar and was also affiliated with the Masonic, Eastern Star, Odd Fellows and Rebekah lodges.
Surviving besides his widow Ferne, are 3 brothers, James and Robert of Cushing, and Joe of Sioux Falls, SD, and 1 sister, Mrs. Joe (Mayme) Meier of Sioux City. His parents, 1 sister Elizabeth and 1 brother William preceded him in death.
