17 September 1997SALIX, Iowa - Bert Ullrich, 91, of Salix died Sunday, Sept. 14, 1997, at Pleasant View Care Center in Whiting; Iowa.
Services will be at 10 a.m. Thursday at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Salix with the Rev. Bruce Lawler officiating. Burial will be in St. Joseph Cemetery. Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. today with a Scripture service at 7:30 p.m. at the church. Wood Funeral Home in Sloan, Iowa, is in charge of arrangements.
Mr. Ullrich was born Oct. 12, 1905, in Ute, Iowa, the son of Engelbert B. and Julia (Schafer) Ullrich. He attended school at St. Mary's in Mapleton, Iowa.
He married Ella M. Conley on April 17, 1934, at St. Mary's Catholic Church.
He fanned for several years and worked for Standard Oil in Mapleton, retiring in 1970.
He was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church, the Knights of Columbus Council 8119 in Salix and the Farm Bureau.Survivors include his wife; two sons and their wives, Tom and Roxie of Sloan and Bert J. and Glenda of Sergeant Bluff; six daughters, Sister Dolores Ullrich of Dubuque, Iowa, Julie and her husband, Duane Calvert, of Albuquerque, N.M., Betty and her husband, John Emge, of Loveland, Colo., LaVonne and her husband, Richard Hill, of Aurora, Colo., Jean and her husband, Dale Gutenkauf, of Onaka, S.D., and Elaine and her husband, Michael Dishman, of Tulsa, Okla.; 22 grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; a brother, Walter Ullrich of Columbia, Mo.; a sister, Edith Streck of Mapleton; and two sisters-in-law, Hilda Gard Ullrich of Mapleton and Leona Ullrich of Whiting.
He was preceded in death by two brothers, Leo and Raymond, and three sisters, Hilda Bresnahan, Sophie Srnith,and Mary Ullrich.
Memorials may be directed to the Sisters of St. Francis at Dubuque, Iowa.
