July 29, 2012Gloria J. Maynard, 82, of Sloan passed away Friday, July 27, 2012, at Pleasantview Care Center in Whiting, Iowa.
Services will be 10 a.m. Monday at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Salix, Iowa, with the Rev. Patrick O’Kane, celebrant, officiating. Burial will follow in Sloan Cemetery. Visitation will be 6 to 8 p.m. today, with a 7 p.m scripture wake service at the church. Arrangements are under the direction of Rush Family Care Service in Onawa, Iowa.
Gloria June was born June 16, 1930 in Sioux City, the daughter of Steve and Bertha (Montagne) Soukup. She graduated from East High School in Sioux City in 1948.
Gloria and Wayne Miltenberger were united in marriage on Dec. 26, 1950. To this union, four children were born. During this time, Gloria worked at the Anderson Bakery and as a bookkeeper at Hanson Feed and Hardware. Wayne passed away on July 9, 1970. Gloria then went to work for Watson Locker in Sloan in 1970, and was employed there until 1986.
Gloria and Paul Maynard were united in marriage on May 29, 1982, and were together until his death on April 9, 2001.
Gloria was a member of the Congregational Church in Sloan for 53 years, and then joined St. Joseph Catholic Church in Salix in 2001. She enjoyed traveling, working in her garden and yard, playing bridge and cooking for everyone. Most of all, she enjoyed family get-togethers.
Gloria is survived by three daughters, Vickie and Monty Brown of Huxley, Iowa, Nancy and Terry Small of Salix, and Cindy and Tim Bakke of Sloan; a son, Mark and Cynthia Miltenberger of Lee’s Summit, Mo.; seven grandchildren; six great-grandchildren, and four more on the way; five stepchildren and their families; a brother, Steve Soukup Jr. of Sioux City; and a sister, Donna Beekley of Omaha.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husbands; and a brother, Vernon Soukup.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be given to St. Joseph Catholic Church in Gloria's name.
