April 06, 2012Florence A. Dyer, 95, of Sioux City passed away Tuesday, April 3, 2012, at Whispering Creek Assisted Living. Waiting for her in heaven is her soul mate and husband of 74 years, Jim Dyer.
Services will be 11 a.m. Saturday at Meyer Brothers Morningside Chapel, with the Rev. David Cox officiating. Burial will be in Memorial Park Cemetery. Visitation with the family will be 4 to 7 p.m. today at the funeral home.
Florence was born on Oct. 26, 1916, in Oskaloosa, Iowa, the daughter of Wilfred and Nora Turner Hutchinson. She graduated from Washta (Iowa) High School.
She married Clarence "Jim" Dyer on June 5, 1937, in Sioux City. He died on Oct. 9, 2011, in Sioux City. Florence worked for Younker's Department Store and then for 20 years at First National Bank.
She was a member of St. Mark Lutheran Church. She had a great sense of humor. She enjoyed cooking, sewing, doing crafts and gardening. She had been in a card club and an antique car club.
Survivors include two daughters, Sharon Ray of South Sioux City, and Karen Saltzman and her husband, Al of Beatrice, Neb.; four grandchildren, Kenneth Ray, Richard Ray, Christy Burger, and Candi Simmons; and two great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Jim; her brother, Homer Hutchinson; and a grandson, Michael Ray.
Pallbearers will be Dewey Christensen, Nick Simmons, Aaron Burger, Dale Rude, Ben Watson, and Shawn Haggerty.
Memorials may be directed to Hospice of Siouxland or Cooking with Love at St. Mark Lutheran Church.
