Ronald Ross Wheeler, 71, of Sioux City passed away Monday, April 2, 2012, at a local hospital after a courageous battle with cancer.

Services will be 10 a.m. Saturday at Meyer Brothers Colonial Chapel, with Monsignor Roger Augustine officiating. Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery. Visitation will be 4 to 8 p.m. today, with the family present 6 to 8 p.m., at the funeral home. Condolences may be posted online at www.meyerbroschapels.com.

Ron was born on May 1, 1940, in Ponca, Neb., the son of Vernon R. and Pauline B. (Perkins) Wheeler. He graduated from Allen Consolidated School in Allen, Neb.

On Aug. 5, 1967, he married Wanda Muth at the Cathedral. Ron worked for Farner Bocken Co. for about 40 years and during that time he also spent a few years as an agent with Prudential Insurance Co. He then worked for U.S. Seamless for about 10 years.

Ron loved working with his hands, from carpentry to complete home restorations, and was a true perfectionist in all his woodworking projects. He enjoyed gardening and loved the outdoors. In earlier years, he also enjoyed boating and camping with his family and friends. He was a man of true kindness and great love of his family and friends. His greatest joy was going to Tahoe and Tucson to be with his son's and daughter's families.

Survivors include his wife, Wanda; three children, Doug Wheeler of Omaha, Troy Wheeler and his wife, Carol of South Lake Tahoe, Calif., and Tracy Wheeler and her husband, Donovan White of Tucson, Ariz.; and three grandchildren, Jessica and Jay Swoboda, Hudson White-Wheeler plus another on the way.

He was preceded in death by his parents; and a daughter, Debra Wheeler.

Memorials may be made in his name to the June E. Nylen Cancer Center or to the charity of your choice.
