March 15, 2012Sybella Rose (Dries) Reiners, 87, of Sioux City, most recently of Dobbs Ferry, N.Y., died Sunday, March 12, 2012, at Saint Cabrini's Nursing Home in Dobbs Ferry after struggling with Alzheimer's disease for many years.
Services will be 10 a.m. Saturday at St. Michael Catholic Church. Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery. Visitation will be 4 to 8 p.m. Friday, with the family present 6 to 8 p.m. and a vigil service at 7 p.m., at Meyer Brothers Colonial Chapel. Sybella was born March 3, 1925, in Ashton, Iowa, to Frank and Maybelle (Guertin) Dries. She was raised in the Ashton/Sibley, Iowa, area. She attended St. Joseph's School. Sybella loved to sing, and as a teenager, she and her sister Dolores sang together at town gatherings. She was proud that she once got on stage and sang with "Bob Wills and His Texas Playboys." Sybella moved to Sioux City in the early 1940s. She worked at various jobs before marrying Bernard Reiners on May 4, 1950, in Luverne, Minn. They moved to Seattle in 1950, but returned in 1951.
"Billie" (as her friends knew her) was a member of St. Michael's Catholic Church in Sioux City for most of her life. She was a member of Altar Society and a volunteer at the St. Michael's Bargain Center for many years. She enjoyed reading, doing crossword puzzles, collecting antique dishes and most of all, listening to country music.
After being diagnosed with Alzheimer's in 2003, Billie moved to Yonkers, N.Y., where she lived with her son Russell, daughter-in-law Fran and granddaughter Shannon. She became a member of St. Ursula's Catholic Church there. She enjoyed spending time with her granddaughter.
Survivors include three sons and a daughter, Russ (Fran) Reiners of Yonkers, Barry (Joan) Reiners of Mandeville, La., Mark Reiners of Venice, Calif., and Jean (Randall) Johnson of New Braunfels, Texas; three brothers and two sisters, Daryl Dries of Jonestown, Texas, Gary Dries of Portland, Ore., Dennis Dries of Sioux Falls, S.D., Shirley Fitterer of Bloomington, Minn., and Madonna Christensen of Sarasota, Fla; and her six grandchildren, Shannon Reiners of Yonkers, Erin, Kevin and Emily Reiners of Mandeville, Daniel Trocchio of Brooklyn, N.Y., and Aimee Trochio of Austin, Texas.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Bernard; a son, Steven; and seven brothers and two sisters, Donnie, Joseph, Vincent, David, Larry, Mike, Danny, Norma Dries and Dolores Campbell.
Pallbearers will be Dennis Dries, Greg Fitterer, Doug Fitterer, Randall Johnson, Ron Beals and Kevin Reiners.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to St. Cabrini's Nursing Home in Dobbs Ferry.
