Nancy Jean Dumas, 58, of Sioux City passed away Wednesday, July 18, 2012, at a Sioux City hospital after a long and courageous battle with cancer.

Services will be 10 a.m. Saturday at Whiting Christian Church in Whiting, Iowa, with the Rev. Tom Scott officiating. Burial will be in Whiting City Cemetery. Visitation with the family will be 5 to 7 p.m. Friday at the church. Arrangements are under the direction of Rush Family Care Service in Onawa, Iowa.

Nancy was born on July 7, 1954, in Onawa, Iowa, the daughter of S.T. and Phyllis (Miller) Skidmore of Whiting. She was the youngest of three daughters. Nancy accepted Christ as her personal Savior at an early age. She attended Whiting High School and Nebraska Christian College in Norfolk, Neb., where she met the love of her life, Lynn Dumas.

She married him on Aug. 30, 1974. Over the years, she formed strong relationships while working with people at Whiting Pleasant View Nursing Home, Whiting Community School, Brookings Municipal Utilities in Brookings, S.D., and Wilson Trailer Company in Sioux City.

Nancy was a devoted and loving wife and mother to her three children and her five grandchildren. Nancy loved being with her family more than anything else. She found great joy in family gatherings that raised her spirit and filled her heart, simply just being together for any reason. Her love for God gave her much comfort and strength.

Nancy will be lovingly remembered by her mother, Phyllis Skidmore of Whiting; her sisters, Linda Robinson and her husband, Harold of Nebraska City, Neb., and Sharon Thelander and her husband, Byron of Onawa; her husband, Lynn Dumas of Sioux City; her three children, Brian Dumas and his wife, Jennifer of LeClaire, Iowa, and their children, Jack, Lily and Charlie, Lori Steffen and her husband, Jay of Des Moines, and Shelley Kranz and her husband, Jeff of Sioux City, and their two children, Faith and Julianne; her nephew, Jeff Thelander and his wife, Beth of Lawton, Iowa, and their children, Ben, Joey and Katie; her mother-in-law, Ruby Dumas of Pottsville, Ark.; her brothers-in-law, Curtis Dumas of Mitchell, S.D., and Randy Dumas of Rockport, N.Y.; and her sister-in-law, Cindy Appel of Clarinda, Iowa.

She was preceded in death by her grandparents, Benjamin and Blanche Skidmore; her grandparents, Rondrup and Margaret Miller; and her father, Shirley "S.T." Skidmore.

The family would like to thank the caregivers at the June E. Nylen Center and Mercy Hospital Oncology staff for their compassion during the past two years.
