Carol L. Schroeder, 66, of Smithland passed away Monday, June 18, 2012, at a Sioux City hospital following a lengthy illness.

Services will be 2 p.m. Saturday at Armstrong Funeral Home in Anthon, Iowa, with the Rev. Karen Handke officiating. Burial will be at a later date. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service Saturday at the funeral home. Per Carol’s wishes, the family requests casual wear for those attending the service. Carol Lee Schroeder was born on Feb. 1, 1946, in Sioux City, the daughter of Patrick Henry and Vera Elsie (Brown) Johnson. She grew up and attended school in the area.

On July 4, 1986, Carol married Lyle Schroeder on the porch of their home with family and friends attending. Carol worked in multiple businesses over the years with no fear of taking on a new challenge. Her primary accomplishment was being a homemaker and caring for her family and others.

Carol enjoyed her friends, horseback riding, camping and anything outdoors. She especially loved country living and her critters.

Survivors include her husband, Lyle; daughters, Julie Ann Strickland of Arkansas, and Deanna Lee Beckner of Danbury, Iowa; her daughter/granddaughter, Crystal Marie (Shawn) Hanks of Hornick, Iowa; grandchildren, Mandy (Tracy) Widemon of Texas, Violet Widemon of Danbury, Billy Beckner of Sioux City, and Rigo Beckner of Danbury; along with many more grandchildren and great-grandchildren; and one brother, Earl G. Johnson of California.

She was preceded in death by her parents; a daughter, Lisa May Beckner; a son, William “Bill” Eugean Beckner; a son-in-law, Russell Strickland; and a sister, Betty Fueston.
