Russell C. Koskovich, 86, of Correctionville passed away on Tuesday, July 3, 2012, at Casa de Paz Rehabilitation and Health Care Center of Sioux City.

Services will be 10:30 a.m. Monday at Salem Lutheran Church of Correctionville, with the Rev. Lorene K. Glant officiating. Burial will be in Correctionville Cemetery of Correctionville. Visitation will be 5 to 7 p.m. today, with a prayer service at 7 p.m., at Nicklas D. Jensen Funeral Home of Correctionville.

Russell Charles Koskovich was born Dec. 12, 1925 in Hancock, Minn., the son of Edd and Laura Koskovich. The family moved to Bloomfield, Neb., and Russell attended country and public schools in Bloomfield.

Russ and Marvel (Wechler) were united in marriage at his in-laws' home during a blizzard on Feb. 9, 1947. Russ farmed in the early years of their married life and then joined Swift and Company, retiring from them after 28 years of loyal employment. Not one to ever retire, he drove school bus for many years and drove the wrecker for his friend, Gaylen Knaack.

Russ was a man of many interests and hobbies, but his greatest gift was that of volunteerism. Russ was the longest-serving member in the history of the Woodbury County Fair serving 39 years, school board member and president for Eastwood Community School District, founder of the Little Sioux Snowmobile Rescue Squad, member of the Correctionville Fire and Rescue Squad, and board member of Salem Lutheran Church.

Family and friends meant the world to Russell. He will be remembered for his gentleness with his grandkids, his devotions to his wife and kids, always being available for his friends, and his love of running a garden hose.

Russell is survived by his children, son, Kevern (Kate) of Correctionville, daughter, Debra (Rip) Martin of Grass Valley, Calif., and son, Kelly (Joan) of Kingsley, Iowa; five grandkids he loved to death, Holly (Rod) Brown, Russell B. (Audrey) Koskovich, Nathan (Ashley) Koskovich, Chase (fiancee, Nicole) Koskovich and Ian Koskovich; two great-granddaughters, Haley and Cheyenne Brown; sister, Betty Volkert; brother, Ed (Ardis) Koskovich; and sister-in-law, Lila (Robert) Buermann.

He is preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Albert, Dale, Ralph, Earl, Wayne and Leon; sisters, Ruby Jirak and Alma Schmidt; daughter-in-law, Kathy Koskovich; sister-in-law, Wilma (Jim) Groszkrueger; and Marvel, his wife, together 65 years of marriage and now forever, apart only three months.
