Dorothy D. Fox, 86, of McCune, Kan., formerly of Bronson, died Monday, June 11, 2012, at her residence.

Memorial services will be at 10 a.m. Sunday, July 15, at the McCune Community Center with her brother-in-law, the Rev. Delano Cunningham, officiating. Fellowship will follow. Cremation has taken place under the direction of Penwell-Gabel Webb & Rodrick Chapel in Independence, Kan.

Dorothy Dean Johnson was born on Jan. 20, 1927, the daughter of Florace and Ethel (Mathis) Johnson, in Shaw, Kan. She graduated in 1942 from Altamont (Kan.) High School. Dorothy graduated in 1947 from Parsons (Kan.) Junior College. She married Leonard L. Fox on Feb. 10, 1949, in Bentonville, Ark.

Dorothy taught country school for a number of years. Dorothy and Leonard moved to North Dakota in 1955 and farmed in the Wing, Sterling and McClusky areas. In 1972, the couple moved to Climbing Hill, Iowa, and then to Bronson in 1975, where they operated Fox Garage. Following their retirement, they moved to Holly Springs, Iowa, in 1987 and then to McCune in 1998, spending the winters in Yuma, Ariz.

Dorothy was of the Catholic faith. She enjoyed gardening, crafts, and woodworking. Dorothy was a member of several card clubs over the years. She was an accomplished seamstress and excellent baker.

Survivors include her husband of 63 years, Leonard; their nine children, Dean and his wife, Joanne Fox of Sioux City, Sandra and her husband, Spike Foster of Napoleon, N.D., John and his wife, Sandy Fox of McCune, Kan., Linda Fox and her husband, Dan Finken of Sioux City, Sue and her husband, Doug Kuhrts of Omaha, Mary Hall of McCune, Jay and his wife, Connie Fox of Rapid City, S.D., Joe and his wife, Gwen Fox of Omaha, and Connie and her husband, John Nall of Omaha; 23 grandchildren; and 28 great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents; a brother, Bill; and a sister, Mildred.
