Helen Louise Kendrick, 84, of Sioux City died Saturday, June 23, 2012, at Holy Spirit Nursing Home.

Graveside services will be 10 a.m. Tuesday in Logan Park Cemetery. Visitation will be 9 a.m. to service time Tuesday at Meyer Brothers Colonial Chapel. Condolences may be sent online to www.meyerbroschapels.com.

Helen was born Nov. 30, 1927, in Sioux City, to Henry and Pearl Kendrick. She graduated from Central High School in 1945 and from Briar Cliff University in 1948. Helen was a dietician for St. Luke's Hospital and at St. Joseph's Hospital/Mercy Medical Center.

She was a member of Malone AME Methodist Church. Helen was very active in the NAACP and S.C. Black Homecoming.

Survivors include a sister, Martha Griffin of District Heights, Md.; nephews, Kenny and Daisy Griffin of Raleigh, N.C., Kevin and Rhonda Griffin of Upper Marlboro, Md., Lynn and Marie Griffin of Washington, D.C., Dr. Mark and Mary Helen Fields, Gerald and Bonnadell Fields, Robert and Lisa Fields and David and JoAnn Whitiker; along with many great-nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents; two sisters, Charlotte James and Jean Fields; and two nephews, Philip Fields and Mark Fields III.
