Vinton Marlon "Blackie" Hayden, 86, of Sioux City passed away Sunday, Feb. 12, 2012, at Hospice House in Omaha from injuries suffered in an automobile accident in January.

Services will be 11 a.m. Friday at Faith Lutheran Church in Sioux City, with the Rev. Ralph Shorey officiating. Burial will be in Memorial Park Cemetery, with military rites conducted by the U.S. Army Reserves. Visitation will be 4 to 8 p.m. today, with the family present 6 to 8 p.m. and a prayer service at 7 p.m. with the Rev. Chuck Wolff officiating, at Meyer Brothers Colonial Chapel. Vinton was born June 22, 1925, in Jefferson, S.D., to Fred and Mabel (Deloney) Hayden. He served his country during World War II with the 101st Airborne stationed in Tohoku, Japan.

He was married to Hilda Schoor on Feb. 11, 1945, in Sioux City. She preceded him in death on Jan. 23, 1997, in Sioux City. He was later married to Lucille Engle on April 14, 2000. She preceded him in death on Oct. 1, 2010.

Early in his career, Vinton worked for Tool and Dye in Chicago, Ill. Upon returning to Sioux City, he worked at various auto body shops before starting Sioux Body Shop in 1958. He subsequently sold Sioux Body Shop, but maintained the original property until the time of his death.

He was a charter member of Faith Lutheran Church. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, and was an avid racer of both stock and sprint cars. He also enjoyed collecting and rebuilding all types of cars, especially Volkswagen.

Vinton is survived by his only son, Rick (Jean) Hayden of Omaha; grandchildren, Brian (Holly) Hayden of Longmont, Colo., Cari Hayden of Denver, Colo., Ashley (Chris) Sewall of Omaha, and Chad Hayden of Omaha; great-grandchildren, Bella Hayden, Abby and Jack Sewall, all of Omaha; stepchildren, Mark (Bobbi) Engle, Stephanie (Peter) Geode and Andrea (Clark) Johnson; stepgrandchildren, Kylie (Andy) Putz, Kelsy Engle, Dane Geode, Whitney Geode, Brandon (Lyndi) Curry, Lacey Curry, Meggan Johnson, and Bridget (Jason) Twedt; great-stepgrandchildren, Parker Curry, Cassandra Taten, and Jade Twedt; two sisters, Vera Madison of Colorado Springs, Colo., and Merilla Davis of Arkansas; six brothers, Ted Hayden of Westfield, Iowa, Bill Hayden of Carrolton, Texas, Fred (Beverly) Hayden of Euless, Texas, Cliff (Norma) Hayden of Woodburn, Ore., Gerry (Ellie) Hayden of Chandler, Ariz., and Virgil "Butch" (Margaret) Hayden of Talaqua, Okla.; and many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his two wives; and a sister, Letha Hayden.
