Joe W. Smith, 56, of Grand Island, Neb., formerly of Sioux City, died Sunday, Jan 15, 2012, at St. Francis Medical Center in Grand Island after a courageous battle with cancer.

Services will be noon Saturday at Apfel Funeral Home in Grand Island. Private family graveside services will be at a later date. Visitation will be 4 to 7 p.m. today at the funeral home. Online condolence may be directed to the family at wwwapfelfuneralhome.com.

Joe is survived by his significant other, Jeannie; two daughters, Michelle Cullins and husband, Loren of Lake Havasu City, Ariz., and Corrina Kinney of Lake Havasu City; two sons, Ben Smith and wife, Shawna of Spokane, Wash. and Tim Smith, of Lake Havasu City; 10 grandchildren, Charlene, Lora, Breanna, Anthony, Lewis, Maria, Kayla, Shirley, Layliana, and Daylen. Joe is also survived by his mother, Pat Smith of Bronson, Iowa; his brother, Jim Smith of Grand Island; his brother, Jerry Smith and wife, Lucy of Colorado Springs, Colo.; his brother, Jack Smith of Bronson; his sister, Jeanette Varvis-Smith of Bronson.
