Shirley M. Carnes, 76, of Sioux City died Thursday, April 26, 2012, at a Sioux City hospital following a brief illness.

Services will be 10 a.m. Thursday at St. Luke Lutheran Church, with the Rev. Kathryn H. Wicks officiating. Burial will be in Memorial Park Cemetery. Visitation will be 4 to 8 p.m. Wednesday, with the family present 6 to 8 p.m. and a prayer service at 7 p.m., at Meyer Brothers Morningside Chapel. Shirley was born on Feb. 25, 1936, in Sioux City, the daughter of Ervin and Faye (Porter) Clark. She grew up in Sioux City and graduated from East High School in 1955.

Shirley married Lyle E. Carnes on March 9, 1956, in Sioux City. She was a lifelong Sioux City resident and worked for Zenith for many years. She then operated her own day-care center and then worked for St. Luke's Home Health Care.

Shirley was a member of St. Luke Lutheran Church. She enjoyed reading, camping, and gambling, but most of all, spending time with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Survivors include her husband, Lyle of Sioux City; a son, Paul Carnes and his wife, Deana of Sioux City and their children, Sunshine Carnes, Amanda Bell and her husband, Steve, Dustin Carnes, Amy Verschoor and her husband, Josh, and Stephanie Hopkins; a daughter, Linda Sidie Wales and her husband, Brian Wales of Monroe, Iowa, and their son, Clayton Wales; Linda's sons, Blake and Wade Sidie and their father, Marc Sidie; Joe's sons, Troy Carnes and his significant other, Robin, and Brysen Sneller; a daughter-in-law, Kim Carnes of Dallas, Texas, and her children, Sarah Carnes, Stefanie Mendoza and Shanna Monckton; a sister, Joyce Carnes of Sioux City; a brother, Jim Clark and his wife, Sandra of Sioux City; 16 great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents; a son, Joseph Carnes; two brothers, Jerry and Gene Clark; and a brother-in-law, Rex Carnes.

Pallbearers will be Troy Carnes, Brysen Sneller, Dustin Carnes, Dennis Stranathan, Dave Davies, and Steve Bell. Honorary pallbearers will be Blake and Wade Sidie, and Clayton Wales.
