Mabel E. "Edna" Kirwan, 93, of Sioux City passed away Friday, May 25, 2012, at a local care facility.

Services will be 11 a.m. Wednesday at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, with the Rev. Dan Guenther officiating. Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery. Visitation will be 4 to 8 p.m. Tuesday, with the family present 6 to 8 p.m., and a vigil service at 7 p.m., at Meyer Brothers Morningside Chapel.

Edna was born May 4, 1918 in Sioux City, the daughter of Urban and Nettie (Monahan) La Breck. She attended Sioux City schools and graduated from Central High School.

Edna married Edward Arthur Kirwan on Feb. 20, 1939 in Sioux City. He preceded her in death on June 24, 1988 in Sioux City. After raising their four children, Edna became a nurse, working at Holy Spirit Retirement Home and Matney Colonial Manor.

She was a member of Immaculate Conception, where she was a past president of the Altar Society. Edna was an avid golfer and bowler.

Survivors include her children, Paul Kirwan and wife, Erna of Sioux City, Mary Montagne and husband, Oliver of Jefferson, S.D., Karen Sall of Omaha, Neb., and Kevin Kirwan and wife, Jane of Sioux City; 16 grandchildren; and 28 great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; a son-in-law, Michael Sall; a sister; and two brothers, including her twin brother.

Pallbearers will be Edna's grandsons, Tim, Britt and Breck Montagne, Craig and David Sall, Ben, Caleb, Pete, Daniel, John and Greg Kirwan. Honorary pallbearers will be Edna's granddaughters, Jackie Montagne, Therese Spehar, Molly Ramlo, Tina Mulvihill and Tracy Braun.

The family would like to thank the special caregivers and Father Dennis Meinen at Holy Spirit.
