Donald "Donnie" Riordan, 83, of Pierson passed away on Friday, Dec. 30, 2011 at his home following a brief illness.

Services will be 10:30 a.m. Monday at the Pierson United Methodist Church in Pierson, Iowa, with the Rev. Bill Cotton officiating. Burial will follow in Good Hope Cemetery at Correctionville, Iowa. Visitation will begin 2 p.m. today, with the family present 4 to 6 p.m. to greet friends, and a prayer service at 5 p.m., at the Johnson-Earnest Funeral Home in Kingsley, Iowa. Donald Dean "Donnie" Riordan was born to Albert and Gladys (Baker) Riordan on Nov. 9, 1928. He was born, lived his whole life, completely remodeled and died in the same house, located on the family farm. Donnie and Beverly Bornschein were united in marriage on May 29, 1955 at the Church of Christ in Pierson, Iowa. He farmed, drove a school bus for over 20 years, was a refrigeration engineer in Sioux City and later owned his own refrigeration business.

He enjoyed woodworking, fishing and gardening with a special focus on his orchard. He demonstrated his love for his Lord and his family at every opportunity. We smile as we remember his great sense of humor and are proud of his consistent integrity and ethics. Over the last several days we have enjoyed comments from friends and neighbors remembering his gentle spirit and continual friendliness.

He was a lifelong member of the Pierson United Methodist Church and served many years as a trustee, and on the administrative board.

Donnie is survived by his wife of 56 years, Beverly; son, Douglas (Lynne); daughter, Karyl Riordan (Bill Schoonover); son, David (Kim); grandchildren, Brianna Robinson (Aaron), Nathan Riordan (Elizabeth), Kayla Vlahoulis (Andy Burger), Samantha Riordan and Lyndsey Riordan (Lucas Smith); great-grandchildren, Brayden Robinson, Brody Robinson, Teagan Riordan, Houston Riordan and another on the way; sister, Letha; brother, Bruce (Pearl); sister-in-law, Effie; and many nieces and nephews.

Donnie was preceded in death by his father, Albert; mother, Gladys; brother, Dale; and sister, Mildred.
