William "Bill" Drevs, 63, of Moville died unexpectedly Friday, Feb. 17, 2012, on his farm.

Services will be 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at Trinity Lutheran Church in Moville, with the Rev. Barb Spaulding officiating. Burial will be in Arlington Township Cemetery. Visitation will be 4 to 8 p.m. today, with the family present 6 to 8 p.m., and a prayer service at 7 p.m., all at the church. Arrangements are under the direction of McCulloch Chapel, Christy-Smith Funeral Homes.

Bill was born Sept. 28, 1948, in Sioux City, the son of William R. and Viola (Roggow) Drevs. He graduated from Woodbury Central High School in 1966 and from Buena Vista College in 1970.

While attending college, he met a girl that would later become his wife. He was a volunteer at Cherokee Mental Hospital and she was a student nurse at the time. There is something to be said about a relationship that begins at a mental hospital. Soon after their encounter, Bill left for boot camp as a member of the Army National Guard. He received a medical discharge and returned to Iowa and the family farm. On June 12, 1971, he married Diane Erickson at First Lutheran Church in South Sioux City.

Bill farmed for several years, raising hay, corn, beans and also had a hog and cattle operation. He also worked at Bomgaars Farm Store. He had to decrease the size of his farm operation because of a heart condition. Bill worked at Overhead Door for several years after that. He continued to raise cattle and manage the Drevs Family Farm as well as his mother's family farm in Peterson, Iowa.

To their marriage, Bill and Diane were blessed with two daughters, Anna and Lisa. They have, in turn, given Bill and Diane two sons-in-law and five beautiful grandchildren.

Bill was a very active member of Trinity Lutheran Church, where he served on several boards.

Survivors include his wife, Diane Drevs of Moville; two daughters and their husbands, Anna and Mike Uhl of Garretson, S.D., and Lisa and Ryan Gilbert of Moville; and five grandchildren, Alex, Kylie and Zachary Uhl and Colby and Lexi Gilbert.

He was preceded in death by his parents.
