SIOUX CITY -- The Rev. Jens N. Kvols, 95, of Sioux City went home to be with the Lord on Wednesday, Sept. 28, 2011, at his residence, the Sioux City Gospel Mission.

Services will be 11 a.m. Saturday at Concord (Neb.) Evangelical Free Church, with the Rev. Todd Thelen officiating. Burial will be in Laurel (Neb.) City Cemetery. Visitation will be 4 to 8 p.m. today, with the family present at 6 p.m. and a celebration service at 7 p.m., officiated by the Rev. Gene Stockton, at Nelson-Berger Northside Chapel in Sioux City.

Jens was born March 17, 1916, in Sholes, Neb., to Nick and Marie (Peterson) Kvols. At age 3, his family returned to Denmark for two years.

Jens married Thelma Lisle on May 27, 1939. At age 27, he accepted Christ as his personal Savior. Jens farmed north of Laurel until 1969. He served the Lord in his local church.

In 1940, Jens was privileged to be one of the men to help found the Sioux City Gospel Mission. He was ordained as a pastor and started a church in Laurel. Jens was the founder of World Missionary Fellowship in the Philippines in 1963, where many souls received Christ as Savior. Jens returned to the Philippines more than 20 times to hold evangelistic meetings.

Jens and Thelma spent their winters in Arizona developing many special friendships. At age 93, Jens returned to the Sioux City Gospel Mission to be part of the ministry and ministered there until the day he died. Jens will be greatly missed by all. However, he left all with a Godly example and his memory will live on forever.

Survivors include his children, Joan Willett of Bloomington, Minn., Sharon (Joe) Schrodt of Kimberling City, Mo., Jim (Judy) Kvols of Laurel and Charolette (Dick) Nelson of Attica, Kan.; 12 grandchildren; 24 great-grandchildren; and a sister, Dorothy Thomas of Blair, Neb.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Thelma; two brothers, Eugene and Morris Kvols; two sons-in-law, Jack Brunner and Myron Willett; two grandchildren, Robbie Brunner and Gene Kvols; and two great-grandchildren, Brandon Edgren and Noah Kvols.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to World Missionary Fellowship.
