SIOUX CITY -- Dennis Russell McGinnis, 69, of Sioux City died Wednesday Sept. 28, 2011, at his home.

Services will be 11 a.m. Saturday at Elliott Creek Presbyterian Church in Bronson, Iowa, with the Revs. Lance and Clint Loveall officiating. The body will be cremated after services. Visitation will be 4 to 8 p.m. today, with the family present 6 to 8 p.m., at Waterbury Funeral Service in Sergeant Bluff. Online condolences may be posted at www.waterburyfuneralserviceinc.com.

Denny was born Oct. 29, 1941, in Sioux City, the son of Thomas P. and Vera L. (Smith) McGinnis. He attended Sioux City schools until his junior year in high school, when he transferred to Bronson Community School, where he graduated with the class of 1960. Following his graduation from high school, Denny became a member of the U.S. Air Force, where he honorably served his country as an aircraft electrician. He cherished his lifelong friendships with the members of the 525th.

Denny married Janice Pottebaum on Feb. 12, 1965. He then began his career as an electrician with IBEW Local 231 in Sioux City. He began as an apprentice electrician, then continued his career for more than 40 years a journeyman electrician in the Sioux City area.

Denny was a loving father and grandfather who enjoyed being a practical joker. He enjoyed fishing, gardening and was known as a master potato salad creator. He was a proud member of the Democratic Party, as well being a member of IBEW Local 231 for more than 40 years.

Survivors include his three daughters, Sherri (Ray) Santos of San Antonio, Texas, Jean (Howard Bebout) McGinnis of Schuyler, Neb., and Melissa (Eric) Hovde of Bronson; six grandchildren, Spencer, Megan, Sidra, Brenna, Kaia and Ella; two sisters, Carol Mueller of Wichita, Kan., and Sharon Cunningham of Sioux City; many nieces and nephews; and his beloved dog, "Herky."

Denny was preceded in death by his parents; three brothers; and six sisters.

Memorials may be directed to Hospice of Siouxland.
