SIOUX CITY | Glen R. Zeigler, 76, of Sioux City passed away Monday, May 21, 2012, after an 11-year struggle with kidney cancer.

Memorial services will be 11 a.m. Tuesday at Trinity Lutheran Church, with the Revs. R. Paul Johnston and Randy Rasmussen officiating. Arrangements are under the direction of Nelson-Berger Northside Chapel.

Glen was born May 5, 1936, in Ortonville, Minn., the son of Clayton and Clara (Akerson) Zeigler. His grade school education was in country school, and he graduated from Corona (S.D.) High School in 1954. He attended South Dakota State College and graduated in March of 1961. He received a Certificate in Physical Therapy from the University of Iowa in September of 1962.

He was united in marriage to Marianne Ward of Iowa City, Iowa, on June 15, 1963. Glen worked as a staff physical therapist at the V.A. Hospital in Iowa City until coming to Sioux City in December of 1963, when he was employed at the Siouxland Rehabilitation Center/Easter Seals. He worked for Northwest Iowa Orthopedics for five years, a year and a half at St. Luke's and then was in private practice.

He was a member of the Iowa and American Physical Therapy Associations and served for a time on the Ethics Committee for the Iowa Physical Therapy Association. Glen was an active member of Sioux City Sertoma and served as president in 1972.

During his time at Easter Seals, he served on the board of directors for Jackson Recovery Centers, the STARS Handicapped Riding Program and the Multiple Sclerosis Society. He enjoyed gardening, woodworking, telling stories, fishing with his brother-in-law, H. Giles Christianson and spending time with his family.

Survivors include his wife, Marianne; sons, Neil (Elena) of Deer Park, Texas, Brent of Rapid City, S.D., and Tim (Alma) of Sioux City; daughter, Kate (Phil) Vlach of Sioux City; as well as eight grandchildren, Kattileen Zeigler of Inverness, Fla., Jerred Zeigler of Rapid City, S.D., Giselle and Maryanne Zeigler of Sioux City, Isabelle and Alex Zeigler of Deer Park, Texas, and Benjamin and Will Vlach of Sioux City; and one sister, Janet (H. Giles) Christianson of Spicer, Minn.

He was preceded in death by his parents and a sister.

Memorials may be sent to Hospice of Siouxland, the Nylen Cancer Center, Jackson Recovery Centers, or Sunrise Retirement Community.
