Steve was born Sept. 11, 1963, in Fort Dodge, Iowa, to Melvin and Eileen (Sernett) Imming. He grew up in Fort Dodge and attended Corpus Christi Grade School. He graduated from Fort Dodge St. Edmonds, where he was known as "Swish." After college, Steve served in the U.S. Air Force at Biloxi, Miss., and Oklahoma City, Okla.

While Steve was in college, he met Kim Short, and they were married Aug. 6, 1988, in Guthrie Center, Iowa. Steve worked as a computer and electronic technician for the Federal Aviation Administration at the Sioux City Airport since 1992.

He was a member of Sunnybrook Community Church. Steve spent his life laughing and playing with those he loved. He always knew to live for today and enjoyed countless good times with his wife of 22 years, Kim. Everything he did was for his boys and Kim, including his lifelong passion for athletics and leisure activities. He was especially happy at all of his sons' activities which he helped coach for most of the last 14 years. Steve spent the rest of his time fixing anything and everything that needed fixing, shooting baskets or playing catch with his boys, "dating" his wife and making her smile. Steve loved to hang with friends, ride his motorcycle, golf, jet ski and "just chill."

Survivors include his wife, Kim of Sergeant Bluff; three sons, Alex, Connor and Jacob, all at home; his mother, Eileen Imming of Fort Dodge; one brother, Mike Imming and his wife, Marilyn of Myrtle Beach, S.C.; three sisters, Jackie Phelps and her husband, Scott of Holstein, Iowa, Jennifer Reding and her husband, Dan of Bellevue, Neb., and Alyssa Loecher and her husband, Eric of Cedar Rapids, Iowa; his mother and father-in-law, Lyle and Joni Short of Guthrie Center, Iowa; and three brothers-in-law, Doug Short of Hartland, Wis., Steve Short of Urbandale, Iowa, and Scott Short of Johnston, Iowa.

He was preceded in death by his father, Melvin Imming.

Pallbearers will be Doug, Steve and Scott Short, Scott Phelps, Dan Reding and Eric Loecher.

In lieu of flowers, a memorial has been established in Steve's name.
