SIOUX CITY | William G. Loebsack, 88, of Sioux City passed away Sunday, May 13, 2012, at Bickford Memory Care Cottage.

Service will be 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at Calvary Lutheran Church, with the Rev. James Travis officiating. Burial will be in Memorial Park Cemetery. Visitation will be 4 to 8 p.m. today, with family present 6 to 8 p.m. and a prayer service at 7 p.m., all at the church. Arrangements are under the direction of Meyer Brothers Colonial Chapel.

Bill was born on Nov. 8, 1923, in Winside, Neb., the son of William and Gertrude (Woockmann) Loebsack. He was baptized on April 20, 1924, and confirmed on June 11, 1939. Bill attended school in Winside. He joined the U.S. Navy in 1943 and was a cook on the ship. Bill was honorably discharged in December 1946.

He married Delores Peters on April 20, 1947, in Winside. The couple recently celebrated their 65th anniversary. Bill worked in western Nebraska until he joined the Civilian Conservation Corporation. The couple moved to Sioux City in 1947, where he worked for various packing houses until 1985, when he was forced to retire due to health issues. Bill moved to Bickford Memory Care Cottage on Aug. 12, 2011.

Bill enjoyed fishing, trips to Canada, and telling fish stories, but most of all he enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren and great-grandchildren. He was a member of the American Legion and Calvary Lutheran Church.

Survivors include his wife, Delores; four daughters, Dianne Bokemper, Lynette Roberts, Deb Clayton and special friend, Steve Mousel, and Lanice and husband, Dave Lamoreux, all of Sioux City; one son, Gary and wife, Shirley of Franklin, Tenn.; grandchildren, Missy and husband, Robbie, Shelley and husband, Pat, Chad, Staci and husband, Cody, Cari and husband, Ron, Carli, Nicole and husband, Brian, Kari and husband, Cory, Scott and wife, Noelle, Tanner, Taylor, and Ashlei; 12 great-grandchildren; two sisters, Betty Meints, and Lavonne Clifford; and many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; stepmother, Marie; a brother, Fred; a sister, Donna Bergman; two sons-in-law, Bill Bokemper and Gilbert Roberts; a granddaughter, Amy Lamoreux; and a great-grandson, Chase Rosener.

Pallbearers will be Brian Christiansen, Scott Lamoreux, Cory Meusburger, Chad Clayton, Ron Stinson, and Pat Grudzinski. Honorary pallbearers will be Bill’s grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

The family would like to thank the care givers at Bickford and Hospice of Siouxland. He was a truly wonderful man, and will be missed by all who knew him.
