SIOUX CITY -- Donald R. Mueller, 78, of Sioux City died Thursday, April 5, 2012, at his residence.

Services will be 10 a.m. Tuesday at Morningside Lutheran Church. Burial will be in Memorial Park Cemetery. Visitation will be 4 to 8 p.m. today, with the family present 6 to 8 p.m., and a prayer service at 7 p.m., at Morningside Chapel, Christy-Smith Funeral Homes.

Don was born Oct. 19, 1933, in Sioux City, the son of Otto and Ruth (Dennis) Mueller. He attended school and graduated from Central High School in 1952.

Don married Gloria Morley on June 20, 1952. Together they made their home in Sioux City. Don joined the U.S. Army in 1953 and was honorably discharged in 1955. He worked for the United States Post Office for over 38 years, retiring in 1989. During his last years at the post office, Don was an orientation and safe driver trainer. After retiring, he worked as a courtesy driver for Knoepfler Chevrolet and for over 13 years as a Care Van Driver for St. Luke's Regional Medical Center.

He was a member of Morningside Lutheran Church, the Branch 69 Letter Carriers Union for over 50 years and was a director for Branch 69 Retired Letter Carriers Union. Don enjoyed his tools and fixing things. He liked fishing, working in his yard and playing in the snow with his snow blower.

Survivors include his wife, Gloria of Sioux City; son, David Mueller of Sioux City; son, Roger Mueller & fiancee, Trisha Nichols of Sioux City; daughter, Joan and Sam Walker of Sioux City; and five grandchildren, Derek Phillips, Doug and Cassie Mueller, Kelsey Mueller, Jennifer Walker and fiance Tony Hansel and Matt and Tiffany Walker.

He was preceded in death by his parents; infant son, Douglas; three sisters, Phyllis Bladen, Beverly Metteer and Marion Shaw; and one brother, Clare Mueller.
