SIOUX CITY | Karl L. Fetterman, 97, of Sioux City died Friday, May 11, 2012, at Sunrise Retirement Community.

Services will be 1 p.m. Tuesday at Meyer Brothers Colonial Chapel, with the Rev. James Pointer of Sioux City Baptist Church officiating. Burial will be in Memorial Park Cemetery. Visitation will be 4 to 8 p.m. Monday, with the family present 6 to 8 p.m., and a prayer service at 7 p.m., at the funeral home. Condolences may be sent online to www.meyerbroschapels.com.

Karl was born Feb. 10, 1915, in South Sioux City, Neb., to David H. and Lillie (Tidd) Fetterman. He later moved to Philip, S.D., where he lived with a farm family and worked for room and board. He attended high school in Philip, S.D. After high school, he joined the U.S. Army and was stationed in San Francisco, Calif. He served from Feb. 8, 1933 until June 16, 1938, and also served Nov. 14, 1942, to Aug. 24, 1943.

He married Karen Holden-Fjeldos in September 1940. She passed away on Dec. 31, 1987. He later married Doris Still-Scott on July 29, 1989. She preceded him in death in July 2009.

Mr. Fetterman was employed with the city of Sioux City as an equipment operator. He was park supervisor at the downtown mall until his retirement. He was also a radio announcer at KTFC on weekends before retiring in 1978.

He was a dedicated and faithful member of Sioux City Baptist Church. He was a member of the Sons of Norway. In his free time he loved to bowl and the Chicago Cubs. He served at the Sioux City Gospel Mission and was known as a jack of all trades. Most of all, he loved spending time with his family, as well as being the caregiver to the whole family and shared a special bond with his grandson, Rick Fetterman.

Survivors include three sons, Stan Fjeldos of Moville, Iowa, Jim Fetterman and his wife, Linda of Olathe, Kan., and Dave Fetterman and his wife, Becky of Tipton, Iowa; 27 grandchildren; numerous great-grandchildren; several great-great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; two wives; a stepson, Laif Fjeldos; two sons, Rev. Einar Fetterman; a daughter, Mary Anderson; five brothers, Martin, William, George W., David and Ollie; and five sisters, Violiet, Alice, Avis, Mary and Lela.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be given to Sunrise Retirement Community or Hospice of Siouxland.
