SIOUX CITY -- Wilhemetta "Willie" Jernberg, 82, of Sioux City passed away with her family present by her side Sunday, March 4, 2012, at Casa de Paz Nursing Home following a brief illness.

Services will be 2 p.m. Thursday at Meyer Brothers Colonial Chapel, with the Rev. Mike Erpelding officiating. Burial will be in Graceland Park Cemetery. Visitation will be 4 to 8 p.m. today, with the family present 6 to 8 p.m. and a vigil service at 7 p.m., at the funeral home. Online condolences may be sent to www.meyerbroschapels.com.

Willie was born Oct. 22, 1929, in Sioux City, to Edith "Edie" Owens. She grew up and attended Sioux City schools. She later attended Western Iowa Tech Community College and graduated with a degree in police science.

She was united in marriage to Glen Jernberg in Elk Point, S.D. She was a lifelong resident of Sioux City. She worked for many years at KCAU Channel 9, then at the AID Center (The Center) for many years.

She was a CASA volunteer, receiving an award from then-Governor Bransted for volunteer of the year. She was a volunteer for the Senior Companions Program, and a member of the Sioux City Police Department "Blue Angels". She was a 30-year charter member of the Eagles Club. She was of the Catholic faith, being baptized in 1968 by her good friend the Rev. Boes. Willie enjoyed playing bingo, doing crossword puzzles, collecting bears, and shooting pool in leagues. She enjoyed roller skating in her younger years, and spent many summer weekends at Crystal Lake.

Survivors include five sons, Bob Holsinger and his wife, Denise of Sioux City, Randy Holsinger and his wife, Debbie of Remsen, Iowa, Scott Holsinger and wife, Sharon of Benson, Ariz., Jerry Meister and his friend, Dawn of Sioux City, and Mark Lorenger of Cameron Park, Calif.; two daughters, Rene and husband, John Wright of Aurora, Colo., and Carla and husband, Bob Asher of Sioux City; 14 grandchildren, Laura (Dwight) Kleene, Michelle (Travis) Miller, Melissa Holsinger, Robb Holsinger, David (Carrie) Meyers, Misti, Jenna, and Jesse Holsinger, Brian (Danae) West, Angela Champion, Chris (Sharrona) Holsinger, Josh and Danielle Asher, and Brittany Reed; 25 great-grandchildren, Sean Fitzgerald, Spencer and Tanner Kleene, Easton, Caitlyn, and Nathan Miller, Alexander Holsinger, Casey, Kenzie, Cody, and Kaylee Holsinger, Ella and Noah Meyers, Ben and wife Joanie Fitzgerald, Amanda Fitzgerald, Karlie and Jordyn Holsinger, Ethan, Olivia, Kai, and Luke West, Alexandria, Madison, Zach, and Jordan Holsinger; and five great-great-grandchildren, Lexi, Benjiman, Derec, Rylee, and Chayce Fitzgerald.

She was preceded in death by her mother, Edith; and husband, Glen.

Pallbearers will be David Meyers, Robb Holsinger, Chris Holsinger, Jesse Holsinger, Travis Miller, and Tyler Walsh.
