SIOUX CITY -- Charmaine Marquesen Buckley, 81, formerly of Sioux City, an artist and mother of six died Saturday, March 3, 2012, at her residence in Plymouth, Minn.

Memorial services will be at a later date this spring at Meyer Brothers Colonial Chapel in Sioux City. An announcement will be published.

Charmaine the oldest of two daughters was born to O. LaRue Marquesen and Betty (Rice) Marquesen of Storm Lake, Iowa. Charmaine's father, a Hormel Foods officer and board member, raised his family in Chicago, Ill., and Mitchell, S.D. Charmaine graduated from Mitchell High School, where she excelled in speech. She created intricate corn and sea shell jewelry while in high school, which she sold during the summer tourist season at the Mitchell Corn Palace. Her father jokingly told her she should not expect to make as much money after she graduated from college. Charmaine attended Rockford College in Illinois and the University of Nebraska in Lincoln, where she was a member of the Alpha Chi Omega.

Charmaine and Winton Buckley married in 1951 and had six children. The first eight years of their marriage, they operated a farm northwest of York, Neb. That was followed by 11 years in Lincoln, where Winton worked for the National Bank of Commerce. They moved to Sioux City in 1971 from Lincoln, when Winton became chairman of Nebraska State Bank in South Sioux City. She was a longtime resident of Sioux City, where the couple spent almost 40 years of their 58-year marriage. Following Winton's death in 2009, she moved to Minnesota to be near two of the daughters.

Charmaine and Winton enjoyed many good times with many good friends wherever they lived. Charmaine was a devoted mother and excelled at providing educational opportunities for her children. She put her artistic abilities to work her entire life until her failing health would not allow more. She was dedicated to passing on her skills to her children and grandchildren. During her time in Sioux City, she was an active volunteer for the Sioux City Symphony and the Sioux City Art Center, where she enjoyed contributing her artistic skills to fund raising events. She was a tennis player and a member of the P.E.O. Chapter IA.

Survivors include her six children, Winton Buckley III and his wife, Nena of Houston, Texas, Mitzi Overland and Bren Buckley, both of Plymouth, Minn., Mark Buckley and his wife, Marie of Dakota Dunes, S.D., Owen Buckley and his wife, Lynne of Kansas City, Mo., and Charmaine DeMarco and her husband, Peter of Ridgewood, N.J.; a brother-in-law, Bill Desch of Peoria, Ariz.; 13 grandchildren; a great-grandchild; and seven nieces and nephews.

Charmaine was preceded in death by her husband, Winton; her parents; her sister, Mitzi Amos; and her sister-in-law, Jean Desch.
