Pioneer Resident Died Friday

Mrs. Mary Hupke, 78, resident of Danbury and community for 45 years, died Friday evening February 14 in the home of her daughter, Mrs. Eldon Schweizer. Mrs. Hupke had been ill for some time during which loving hands did everything possible for her comfort and welfare.

Funeral services for Mrs. Hupke were held at 9:30 o’clock, Monday in the Danbury St. Mary’s Catholic Church with Mass being said by Rev. A.A. Bausch, the pastor in the presence of many relatives and friends of the family.

Burial was made in the Danbury St. Mary’s Cemetery in charge of the Fitzpatrick Funeral Home.

The pallbearers were grandsons which included Jerome Kleine, Bernard Kleine, Delbert Hupke, James Hupke, Joseph Mohrhauser and Donald Theobold.

Mary Meyer was born September 17, 1868 at Norway, Iowa being a daughter of Joseph and Lena Meyer. She was married to Frank Hupke January 3, 1891. They moved to Schaller and in 1902 moved to a farm east of Danbury where they lived until 1913 when they retired from farm life and moved to Danbury to the property where Lawrence Schimmer’s now live. Mr. Hupke died December 27, 1937.

Mrs. Hupke was a beloved women and witnessed the unfolding of the history of this community for nearly half a century. Her life was rich in doing for others and her large family can always hold a fond memory of her for all time.

Surviving are ten children. They are Mrs. John (Mary) Theobold, Joe Hupke, Mrs. John (Anna) Mohrhauser and Frank Hupke, of Mapleton, Mrs. John (Lena) Kleine of Danbury; John Hupke of Des Moines, Bernard L. Hupke of Mapleton, Mrs. Tony (Genevieve) Flammang and Mrs. Jerome (Loretta) Uhl of Ontario, California, Mrs. Eldon (Bertha) Schweizer of Danbury. Two sisters, Mrs. Lena Ohlsen of Ida Grove and Mrs. V.A. Thoman of Norway, Iowa.

There are 58 grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren.

Out of town relatives and friends attending the funeral were; Mrs. V.A. Thoman, Mrs. William Schulte, Norway, Iowa; Mrs. Lena Halsey, Cedar Rapids, Mr. and Mrs. Bob O’Brien, Mrs. Kate Hauser, Mrs. Lena Ohlsen, Ida Grove; Mr. and Mrs. Henry Tranckoviak, Schaller; Mr. and Mrs. Henry Quirlin, Mrs. Charles Quirin, Storm Lake; Mrs. Leo Uhl, Mr. and Mrs. Joe Mohrhauser, Mrs. Ray Miller, Sioux City; Mr. and Mrs. Ralph Theobold, Lester Theobold, Ames; Rita and Theresa Theobold, Wayne, Nebraska ; Mr. and Mrs. Tom Craig, Anthon.

The Review joins the people of the community in extending their sympathy to the family to the family in the loss of their dear mother.
