SIOUX CITY -- Ella Marie Johme, 72, of Sioux City passed away on Friday, July 8, 2011, at a local hospital comforted by family.

Services will be 10 a.m. Tuesday at Meyer Brothers Colonial Chapel, with the Very Rev. Merlin Schrad officiating. Burial will follow in Memorial Park Cemetery. Visitation will be 4 to 8 p.m. Monday, with the family present at 6 p.m., and an informal sharing of memories at 7 p.m., at the funeral home.

Ella was born on Nov. 12, 1938, in Sioux City to Burbridge and Ella (Streeter) Beavers, the oldest of 15 children. She received her education in the Sioux City Public Schools before entering the work force and falling short of receiving her high school diploma at age 16.

She worked for the Ben Franklin Dime Store in Morningside before her marriage to Ronald Johme on July 9, 1959, at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Sioux City. Having married a U.S. Navy man, Ella and Ronald lived in numerous places including Escondido, Calif., Kingsville, Texas, and Imperial Beach, Calif., where Ella was a Den Mother.

Upon her husband's honorable discharge in 1975, the couple returned to Sioux City. Ella returned to school, attending Western Iowa Tech at age 50, and received her GED. She was a proud Ten Gallon Donor with the Blood Bank in Sioux City. She worked different jobs around town including Tasty-Inn & Out, assembling fishing tackle equipment, and as a housekeeper at a hotel on Pierce Street. Ella also assisted in the family business of Johme Tractor Parts. She worked as a bookkeeper and in customer service.

Ella worked at Crescent Park School serving breakfast and helping on the playground for many years. She was known as "grandma" by all the children, and retired in 2001. She enjoyed playing the slots at various casinos. She would have celebrated her 52nd anniversary with Ron last Saturday. Ella was everything to her family, and family was everything to Ella. She greeted family and friends alike with, "Where's my hug?" She will be dearly missed by many.

Ella is survived by her husband, Ronald of Sioux City; sons, Curt Johme and his wife, Lisa of Sioux City, Kenneth Johme and his significant other, Caroline Gerrietts of Le Mars, Iowa, Keith Johme and his wife, Rainy of Grand Prairie, Texas. and Kevin Johme and his wife, Melissa of Sioux City; siblings, Burbridge, Rosie, Mary, Thomas, Danny, Harold, Raleigh, Sherry, Nellie, Dennis, Tammy and Pammy; grandchildren, Shannon Johme, Ashley Johme, Amber Johme, Tara McPherson, Kory Johme, Kylee Johme, Zachary Johme, Nathanael Gates and his wife, Courtney, Erin Johme, Alexis Johme, Jasmin Johme, Ryan Johme and his wife, Valerie and Travis Johme; and great-grandchildren, Andre, Madison, Logan, Gwyn, Gracie and Alex.
