SIOUX CITY -- Katherine B. Higgins, 39, of Sioux City died Thursday, July 7, 2011, at a Sioux City hospital, surrounded by loving members of her family and friends.

Services will be 11 a.m. today at the Rose Garden in Grandview Park. Services in Rushville, Ind., will be conducted at Todd Funeral Centre and Crematorium later next week. Local arrangements are under the direction of Waterbury Funeral Service.

Kathie was the daughter of Sara (Ellen) Kwiatkowski (nee: Fahey) of Kansas City, Mo., and Kenneth B. Armbruster of Sioux City. Born Aug. 11, 1971, at St. Anne's Hospital, Chicago, Ill., Kathie lived in Rushville for six years of her youth before returning to Chicago. Kathie returned to Rushville in 1991 where she met and married Dean Allen Higgins on Aug. 25, 1994. In 2008, Kathie and Dean re-located their family to Sioux City. Kathie was a "ray of sunshine" among her co-workers at ALORICA where she was a business data support agent.

Kathie was preceded in death by her maternal grandparents Louis and Maryanna Fahey, and her Aunt Mary Lou Fahey of Rushville, her husband Dean's father, Ronald A. Higgins, his Uncle Willard Simms and his grandmother, Dora Simms of Rushville. Kathie also mourned the loss of her paternal grandparents, Carl and Iris Armbruster and her stepmother Linda Armbruster.

Kathie is survived by her husband Dean, her sons Tyler, 14, Kenny, 12, Harley, 9 and her stepdaughter, Nikki, 20; her parents, Ellen and Ken; her stepfather Ed Kwiatkowski; and six half-sisters, Amy Armbruster, 34, of Sioux City, Trisha Armbruster, 31, Tracey Armbruster, 29, of Sioux City, Kathleen Armbruster, 26, of Sioux City, Sara J. Kwiatkowski, 26 of Raytown, Mo., and Laura Kwiatkowski, 24, of Raytown. Kathie is also the niece of Carole Kehl of Buffalo Grove, Ill., and Thomas J. Fahey of Michigan, Louis W. Fahey Jr. of Bourbonais, Ill. Kathie is also survived by many wonderful cousins, nieces and nephews.

Everyone will treasure memories of Kathie's unfailing sense of humor, love and generosity. Kathie fought a brave battle with AML (leukemia) after being diagnosed in January of 2011. "He heals the brokenhearted and binds up their wounds." (Psalm 147:3)
