MOVILLE, Iowa -- Phillip Emil Yockey, 74, of Moville died Saturday, July 2, 2011, at his residence.

Services will be 10:30 a.m. Thursday at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Moville, with the Rev. Mark J. Stoll officiating. Burial will be in St. Joseph Cemetery, Anthon, Iowa. Visitation will be 4 to 8 p.m. today, with the family present 6 to 8 p.m. and a parish vigil service at 7 p.m., at the church. Arrangements are under the direction of McCulloch Chapel, Christy-Smith Funeral Home in Moville. Condolences may be sent online to www.christysmith.com.

Phillip was born Nov. 3, 1936, near Anthon, the son of Orval and Marie (McNamara) Yockey. He attended school near Anthon and graduated from Anthon High School. During his years in high school, he was in the U.S. Navy Reserves. After graduation, he joined the U.S. Army and later the 185th Air Guard.

Phillip married Darlene M. Dunn in December 1962. They made their home in Sioux City. In 1965, Phillip went to work for the USDA as a meat inspector. He retired in 1994. He still met with other retired meat inspectors every other month. He and Darlene moved to Anthon for a time before moving to Moville in 2002. They were foster parents for more than 25 years, taking care of more than 50 children.

He was a member of Immaculate Conception Catholic Church and a Fourth Degree Knight with the Knights of Columbus. He was a people person. He also enjoyed reading and collecting coins.

He is survived by his wife, Darlene Yockey; two daughters, Kathleen "Maeyowa" and Craig "Derosa" Edwards of Carlton, Wash., and Marie and Richard Muckey of Moville; a son, Leo Yockey of Curlew, Wash.; eight grandchildren; and three sisters, Calista Dunnington of Pierson, Iowa, Mildred and Marvin Wycoff of Moville, and Joyce Karlsrud of Lakeville, Minn.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Orval and Marie Yockey; and a sister, Evie Joann Blessing.

Memorials are preferred to Mary's Choice in Sioux City.
