SIOUX CITY -- John Vincent Zenkovich, 88, of Sioux City passed away July 3, 2011, at his home, under Hospice Care, with family at his side.

Services will be 10 a.m. Thursday at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, with the Rev. Daniel Guenther officiating. Interment will be in Calvary Cemetery. Visitation will be 4 to 7 p.m. today, with the family present 5 to 7 p.m. and a vigil service at 7 p.m., at Meyer Brothers Morningside Chapel.

John, the son of Vincent and Marie (Nanek) Zenkovich, was born Dec. 30, 1922, in Sioux City. He graduated from East High School in 1941. He worked for Burlington Northern (Great Northern) Railroad from 1941 until his retirement in 1987. His employment was interrupted for service with the U.S. Army from 1943 through 1946. During his service, he was awarded the Good Conduct Medal, the European, African, Middle East Campaign Medal, the American Campaign Medal, and the World War II Service Medal.

On Nov. 17, 1951, he married Marian Reisch at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Remsen, Iowa. John and Marian lived in Sioux City and attended Immaculate Conception Catholic Church. John enjoyed his grandchildren and was very proud of their accomplishments and those of their parents.

Survivors include his wife, Marian of Sioux City; his four children, Michael and his wife, Alice of Keller, Texas, Susan and her husband, Ed Knudsen of Sioux City, Kathy and her husband, Kent Mueller of Humboldt, Iowa, and John of Antigo, Wis.; 10 grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his brother, Edward; and parents-in-law, John and Armella Reisch.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to Immaculate Conception Church of Sioux City or Hospice of Siouxland.
