Anthon, Iowa—Joan F. White of Anthon died Wednesday, January 3, 2001, at her daughter’s home in Barling, Arkansas of 73 years, 5 months and 1 day.

Visitation with a vigil wake service was held at Armstrong Funeral Home in Anthon on Sunday, January 7. The Funeral Mass was held on Monday, January 8, 2001, at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Anthon with the Rev. Mark Harrington officiating. Pallbearers were Chris White, Brad White, Jeff Deeds, Mike McKenna, Chris Lillefloren, Joey Robine, John Bly, and Coby Watson. Burial was in Mt. St. Joseph Catholic Cemetery.

Joan Frances White was born August 2, 1927, in Danbury, Iowa, the daughter of Thomas and Genevieve (Gahan) Fitzpatrick. She graduated from St. Patrick’s High School in Danbury with the class of 1946. On February 18, 1947, Joan was united in marriage to Harold R. White in Sioux City, Iowa. The couple made their home in Anthon. Harold died June 4, 1995.

She was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church in Anthon and the Catholic Daughters of America. For years Joan sold Watkins products. She was an avid Chicago Cubs fan and found enjoyment having coffee with her friends, but her greatest pleasure was found in sharing time with her family.

Those survivors left to cherish Joan’s memory include three daughters and their husbands, Coleen and Bill McKenna of Garretson, South Dakota, Marlene and Cecil McKenna of Barling, Arkansas and Pat and Dan Deeds of Correctionville, Iowa; a daughter-in-law, Sally White of Omaha, Nebraska; 10 grandchildren, Tammy White, Angela Bly, Chris White, Michelle Robine, Kari McKenna, Mandy Lillefloren, Cheryl McKenna, Jeff Deeds, Mike McKenna and Brad White; four great-grandchildren, Brian, Zach, Brooke and Jaden; one sister, Eileen Leinbaugh and her husband, Wyman of Holstein, Iowa; and one sister-in-law, Rita Fitzpatrick of Danbury, Iowa; along with several nieces and nephews, neighbors and good friends.

Along with her husband, Joan was preceded in death by two sons, Paul and John White, her parents, three brothers, Leo who died in infancy, Thomas and Bill Fitzpatrick and a sister, Denice Gray.
