Evelyn G. Steckel, 84, formerly of 515 Court St. died unexpectedly Tuesday, February 27, 1995, at a Sioux City nursing home.

Services will be 11 a.m. Saturday at Christy Smith & Hockenberry Morningside Funeral Home. Vicar Mauricio Haacke Augustana Lutheran Church will officiate. Burial will be Arlington Township Cemetery at Moville, Iowa. Visitation will be noon until 9 p.m. Friday, with the family present 7 to 9 p.m. at the funeral home.

Mrs. Steckel, the former Evelyn Streeter, was born May 8, 1910, in rural Moville. She lived in Correctionville, Iowa, for a time and moved to Sioux City as a child. She attended East Junior High School in Sioux City. She married Edmund J. Wiese in 1928. He died in 1965. She married Leighton “Bud” Steckel in 1966. She worked as a hostess for various restaurants including Joe Gantz Steak House and later the Paddock Steak House for more than 30 years, retiring in 1979.

Mrs. Steckel was a member of Augustana Lutheran Church and was an avid student of the Unity School of Christianity.

Survivors include a daughter, Patricia and her husband, F. Richard “Dick” Benton of Sioux City; a sister, Mrs. Wayne (Faunelii “Brownie”) Flenker of Maquoketa, Iowa; two grandsons, Douglas C. Benton and Bradley William Benton; five great-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews and a special great-niece.

She was preceded in death by a brother, Ivan E. Streeter and two sisters, La Von Boyd and Eula Kempf.

Pallbearers will be Art Streeter and Bradley, Douglas, Justin and Michael C.R. Benton.
