HOLLY SPRINGS, Iowa -- Vivian R. Dawdy, 84, of Holly Springs died Thursday, May 9, 2002, at a Sioux City hospital following a brief illness.

Services will be 10:30 a.m. Monday at Willman Funeral Home in Rodney, Iowa, with the Rev. Karen Handke of United Church of Christ officiating. Burial will be in Willow Township Cemetery, Holly Springs. Visitation will be 6 to 8 p.m. today, with a prayer service at 7:30 p.m., at the funeral home.

Mrs. Dawdy was born Sept. 7, 1917, at Oto, Iowa, the daughter of Jarvis and Leatha (Moss) Leather. She graduated from high school in Oto, Iowa, with the class of 1935. She lived on a farm until she married Leonard V. Dawdy on Feb. 6, 1940. They farmed near Holly Springs until 1953, when they purchased the locker plant and small grocery store in Holly Springs which they operated until their retirement in August 1982. Mr. Dawdy died Aug. 5, 1985. She continued to live in Holly Springs until her death.

Survivors include a daughter, Alice and her husband, Larry Comly of Holly Springs; a son, Vincent Dawdy of Sioux City; three grandchildren, Tim Comly of Three Rivers, Mich., Tony Dawdy of Sioux City, and Renee Dawdy of Sioux City; two great-grandchildren, Gunnar and Jessica Dawdy; and a sister, Evelyn Clarke of Fort Collins, Colo.

She also was preceded in death by a sister, Eileen Callaghan.

Pallbearers will be Jim Wood, Robert Hanner, Fred Carr, Norm Hamman, Tom Ryan and Richard Henneous.
