ANTHON, Iowa - Robert Joseph Gotto, 54, of Anthon died Sunday, May 13, 2001, at a Sioux City hospital.

Services will be 10 a.m. today at Moville Evangelical Church in Moville, Iowa, with the Rev. Ken Brakefield officiating. Burial will be in Mount St. Joseph Catholic Cemetery, with military rites conducted by American Legion McNiff Post 389 of Anthon and Veterans of Foreign Wars Little Sioux Valley Post 9124 of Oto, Iowa. Arrangements are under the direction of Armstrong Funeral Home in Anthon.

Mr. Gotto was born June 18, 1946, in Oto, Iowa, the son of Henry and Joyce (Gapen) Gotto. He was raised in the Oto area and graduated from Anthon-Oto High School in 1964.

He married Reta Jean Fisher on Dec. 17, 1964, in Ida Grove, Iowa. He served in the U.S. Navy during the Vietnam War, stationed in California. He was employed as a truck driver with Marx Trucking in Sioux City for several years. He was most recently employed as a driver for Mike Nepper.

He was a member of Veterans of Foreign Wars Little Sioux Valley Post 9124 and American Legion McNiff Post 389. He enjoyed singing, playing harmonica, fishing and working on cars.

Survivors include his mother of Anthon; a son and his wife, Rob and JoAnn of Sioux Center, Iowa; two daughters and their wives, Rachelle and Eric Polkinghorn of Moville, and Robyn and Lee Hirst of Sioux City; two brothers, Bill and his wife, Chris, and Nick, all of Anthon; a sister, Helen Book of Anthon; five grandchildren; and several foster grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his father.
