ANTHON, Iowa -- Francis P. "Flip" Dixon, 86, of Anthon died Tuesday, March 12, 2002, at his residence.

Services will be 10:30 a.m. Friday at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Anthon, with the Rev. William Schreiber officiating. Burial will be in Mount St. Joseph Catholic Cemetery. Visitation will be after 2 p.m. today, with a vigil wake service at 7 p.m., at the church. Arrangements are under the direction of Armstrong Funeral Home in Anthon.

Francis P. "Flip" Dixon was born at Neola, Iowa, on June 1, 1915, the son of John James and Vera (Clark) Dixon. He moved to Anthon at the age of four with his family. He attended St. Joseph's Catholic School and graduated from Anthon High School in 1933.

He married Edna Koehler in 1938. They farmed near Anthon for many years. Edna died Aug. 8, 1974.

He was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church.

He is survived by six sons, Robert and his wife, Diane of Little Rock, Ark., Ralph and his wife, Karen, of Helena, Mont., Nick and his wife, Jo, of Kansas City, Mo., Don and his wife, Vicki, of Le Mars, Iowa, John and his wife, Linda, of Anthon and Michael of Moville, Iowa; six daughters, Helen and her husband, Kyle Sapp, of Omaha, Joan Walsh of Sioux City, Alice and her husband, Fred Straub, of Spokane, Wash., Patricia and her husband, Steve Moseman, of Milford, Iowa, Mary and her husband, Steve Diamond, of Cheney, Wash., and Debra of Sheldon, Iowa; 38 grandchildren; 34 great-grandchildren; three sisters, Emma Coyne of Manson, Iowa, Patricia Lacey of Atlanta, Ga., and Mary Weber of Sioux City; a brother, Raymond of Woodburn, Ore.; and two sisters-in-law, Lee Dixon of Moville and Louise Dixon of Sterling, Colo.

In addition to his wife, he was also preceded in death by his parents, five brothers and a sister.

The family asks that memorials be directed to Village Northwest Unlimited of Sheldon, Iowa.
