SIOUX CITY -- Inez Ruth Eidsness Zinter, 85, of Maple Grove, Minn., formerly of Sioux City, died March 23, 2011.

Memorial services will be 11 a.m. Friday, April 1, at Glen Haven Chapel, 5125 W Broadway, in Crystal, Minn. A private committal service will be in Albion Township Cemetery, near Ellendale N.D., at a later date. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service at the funeral home.

She was born in Arlington, S.D., on Dec. 30, 1925, the daughter of Trygve and Bertha Wastun Eidness, Norwegian immigrants who lived and farmed north of Lake Preston, S.D.

Inez's education started in a one-room school house on the prairie. She graduated from Hetland High School in 1943. Inez went on to complete nurse's training at Sioux Valley Hospital in Sioux Falls, S.D., in 1948 and received a bachelor of science in nursing education in 1949 from South Dakota State College.

Inez met Clinton Zinter, a World War II veteran from Fredrick S.D., while they were in college in Brookings. They married in 1948. The two moved to Minneapolis in 1949 starting a life together. Inez taught at Northwestern Hospital School of Nursing before becoming a homemaker and mother, utilizing the practical skills she had acquired from her life on the farm.

A move to Sioux City in 1965 brought Inez back to nursing at St. Luke's Hospital. When she retired from administrative nursing in 1992, she had funded the secondary education of her four children and found her way through the social change of the late 60s and 70s.

Survivors include brothers, Lynn Eidsness of Huntington Beach, Calif., and Warren (Adele) Eidsness of Rosemount, Minn.; a sister, Doris (Bud) Anderson of Lake Preston, S.D.; children, Steve (Sandy) Zinter of Pierre, S.D., Gary (Nancy) Zinter of Plymouth, Minn., Janet Zinter (Mark Anagnostopulos) of Brattleboro, Vt., Joan Zinter (Linda Kawer) of West Shokan, N.Y.; six loving grandchildren, Kari Zinter Borders, Aaron Zinter, Matt Zinter, Sarah Zinter, Kelly Zinter Schaefer and Claire Zinter Anagnostopulos; and two great-grandchildren, Jack and Sawyer.

Inez was preceded in death by her husband, Clinton in 2008.

Inez's strong religious faith promoted a lifelong compassion for others and self-less giving. She led by example and touched the lives of those around her. As a reflection of her life, the family requests donations be an act of kindness to a friend, neighbor or co-worker. A caring deed would bring joy to Inez Ruth Zinter.
