SIOUX CITY -- Janice Marie Anderson, 68, of Sioux City died Wednesday, March 16, 2011, at Matney's Colonial Manor in South Sioux City after a long illness.

Services will be 10:30 a.m. Thursday at Redeemer Lutheran Church, with the Rev. David Zirpel officiating. Burial of her cremated remains will be in Rosehill Cemetery in Rockwell City, Iowa, at a later date. Visitation will be one hour before service time at the church.

Janice was born July 1, 1942, in Fonda, Iowa, the daughter of John and Thelma (Moad) Schossow. She graduated from high school and received her associate of arts degree from Iowa Central College in Fort Dodge, Iowa. She married Norlyn E. Anderson on Oct. 29, 1959, in Rockwell City.

She was employed with Webster County Lumber Co. and Cashway Lumber Co. for 10 years. The family lived in Fort Dodge from 1959 until 1982, when they moved to Sioux City. She then went to work at Fullerton Lumber Co. in Sioux City for a short time. She was then employed as an input clerk for the Internal Revenue Service for 18 years, retiring in 2002. She was a member of Redeemer Lutheran Church and a member and past president of Newcomers.

She helped start a number of card clubs, playing Five Hundred, cribbage and pinochle. She also enjoyed collecting memorabilia, shopping and bowling.

She is survived by her husband, Norlyn, of Sioux City; two daughters, Christine Allard and her husband, Mike, of Plymouth, Minn., and Kathleen Anderson of Sioux City; three brothers, Robert Schossow and his wife, Marlene, and Dean Schossow and his wife, Marie, all of Pomeroy, Iowa, and Garry Schossow of Fonda; three granddaughters, Tara and Jenna Allard, both of Plymouth, and Amy Lyn Lindstrom of Webster City, Iowa; and several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents; a sister, Beverly Schossow; her special dog, Skipper; and her cat, Pierre.

Arrangements are under the direction of Christy-Smith Funeral Home in Sioux City.
