SIOUX CITY -- Born again, World War II veteran, Wayland (Dub) Clifford Baird, 85, went home to be with his Lord and Savior on March 14, 2011 from a Sioux City hospital, with his family surrounding him.

Services will be held 11 a.m. Thursday at Central Assembly of God, 2300 W. 19th Street, with the Rev. Randy Nelson of Kansas City, Mo. officiating. A luncheon will follow at the church. Interment will then follow in Memorial Park Cemetery, with military rites offered by the U.S. Navy. Visitation will be 10 to 11 a.m. Thursday at the church. Dub was born Oct. 20, 1925 to Karl F and Mildred (Ficken) Baird in Moville, Iowa. He was the third of four children. Dub entered the U.S. Navy in Oct. of 1943. He served in the Pacific on board the U.S.S. Hart (DD 594) as Fire Control Mate 1st class (5" Gun) until his discharge in April 1946.

He returned to Sioux City where he met and married Donna Faye Kinnaman April 7, 1954. Dub worked at many vocations in the Sioux City area, Armour's, Wilson Trailer, Pizza Papa, Co-Op (MidAm) to name a few, before retiring in 1987. Dub also worked at the Marina Inn part-time after retirement.

Dub is survived by his wif,e Donna Faye of Sergeant Bluff; daughter, Roxanne and husband, Randy Pojar of Sioux City, their two daughters, Heather and Aubrie of Sioux City; son, Timothy and wife, Darla of Anthon, Iowa, their two children, Joshua of Hampton, Iowa, and Sarah of Anthon, Iowa; daughter, Kathy and husband, Rodney Sitzmann of Sioux City, their three sons, Aaron of Council Bluffs, Iowa, Chad and Justin, both of Lawton; daughter, Lisa and husband, Risty Stamoulis of Sergeant Bluff, their three children, Arielle of Sergeant Bluff, Stephanie of St. Louis, Mo., and Anthony in the U.S. Air Force; and daughter, Karen Wilson, her four children, Derek, Alysha, David and Andrew of Sergeant Bluff; 19 great-grandchildren; a sister, Vera Crow of Little Rock, Ark.; and many nephews and nieces.

He was preceded in death by his mother and father; brother Theodore of Lawton; and sister, Verla Scheibe of Milbrae, Calif.
