SMITHLAND, Iowa -- Alice M. Parsley, 86, of Smithland died Friday, March 11, 2011, at her residence.

Services will be 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at Willman Funeral Home in Rodney, Iowa, with the Rev. Karen Handke officiating. Burial will be in Little Sioux Township Cemetery at Smithland, Iowa. Visitation will be 4 to 8 p.m. today, with the family present 6 to 8 p.m., at the funeral home. Online condolences may be made at www.pearsonwoodwillman.com

Alice Mae Parsley, daughter of Harold and Berniece (Moose) Lent, was born Oct. 2, 1924, in Smithland, Iowa. She was raised and educated in Smithland. On Aug. 11, 1940, Alice was united in marriage to Warren W. Parsley in Emerson, Neb. To this union eight children were born, Leon, Lance, Gayland, Dennis, Michael, Marvin, Connie and Cheryl. The family made their home in Smithland, and Alice was a homemaker and worked various jobs over the years. She enjoyed family, crossword puzzles, gambling and playing Bingo.

Grateful for having shared her life are her children, Leon and wife, LuAnn Parsley of Fremont, Neb., Lance and wife, Judy Parsley of Sioux City, Gayland and wife, Cheryl Parsley of Dakota Dunes, S.D., Michael Parsley of Plattsmouth, Neb., Marvin and wife, Toni Parsley of Plattsmouth, Neb., Connie and husband, Mike Davis of Rodney, Iowa, and Cheryl Beckstrom and friend, Richard Malloy of Sioux City; 23 grandchildren; 53 great-grandchildren; other relatives and many friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Warren; one son, Dennis; one grandson; four great-grandchildren; one sister, Imogene; one brother, Harold; a half sister, Sandra and a special friend, LaVonne Miller.
