9 March 2011SIOUX CITY -- Jean A. Dawdy, 70, of Sioux City passed away Tuesday, March 8, 2011, at a Sioux City hospital.
Services will be 1 p.m. Friday at Whitfield United Methodist Church, with the Rev. Sylvia Kennedy officiating. Burial will be in Memorial Park Cemetery. Visitation with the family will be 4 to 7 p.m. Thursday, with a prayer service at 7 p.m., at the Whitfield United Methodist Church. Arrangements are under the direction of Meyer Brothers Colonial Chapel. Condolences may be sent online to www.meyerbroschapels.com.
Jean was born March 16, 1940, in Sioux City, to Howard and Lucile (Miller) Wilshire. She graduated from Central High School and attended Western Iowa Tech Community College. She worked for 26 and one half years as a medical secretary for Matney Nursing Home on the westside.
She was married to James Dawdy on Oct. 23, 1958, in South Sioux City. The marriage ended in divorce. He preceded her in death in November 2008 in Glendale, Ariz.
Jean enjoyed bingo, crocheting and shopping with her daughters. She was a member of Whitfield United Methodist Church and the Siouxland Moose Lodge.
Survivors include her six children, James (Alice) Dawdy of Sioux City, Robin (Ronald) Wanamaker of Sioux City, Jeffrey (significant other, Dee Cameron) of Sergeant Bluff, Larry (Mame) Dawdy of Sioux City, Darrin Dawdy of Coralville, Iowa, Anthony (Tonya) Dawdy of Sioux City; another daughter, Kathy Tague of Sioux City; numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren; brother, Howard (Marsha) Whilshire Jr. of New Hampton, Iowa; a half brother, William Whilshire of Sioux City; half sisters, Linda (Pat) Hall of Sioux City, Helen of Tennessee, Cindy of California, and Debbie of California.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her ex-husband; a sister, Doris in infancy; and a half brother, Dennis Whilshire.
