7 March 2011SIOUX CITY -- M. Maxine Stientjes, 97, formerly of Sioux City, passed away on March 3, 2011, in Fort Collins, Colo.
Private family services are pending.
Maxine was born Nov. 11, 1913, in Richland Township, Sac County, Iowa, to Frank and Christiana (Tina) Cressey. Upon graduating from Paullina High School in Paullina, Iowa, she attended a secretarial course in Beresford, S.D.
Maxine married Arnold L. Stientjes on July 31, 1934. Arnold was a high school and college professor of chemistry in various Iowa communities. From 1952 until she retired in 1975, Maxine was the registrar for East High School in Sioux City. In addition, she was a Girl Scout leader, a member of Elcho Garhum Study Club and several Grace United Methodist Church organizations in Sioux City. She was a 50-year member of Chapter JG, PEO.
During 27 years of retirement in Naples, Fla., she was a volunteer at the Bargain Box thrift store. Her hobbies included sewing, gardening and cooking. In 2003 Maxine moved to Colorado for her remaining years.
Maxine is survived by three daughters, Kay (Gary) Ramseyer of Naples, Fla. and Normal, Ill., Carol (Darby) Moeller of Fort Collins, Colo., and Karen (John) Pas of Spirit Lake, Iowa; seven grandchildren; and 14 great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband; a brother; a sister; a grandson; and a great-grandson.
The family wishes to thank the staff of the various Columbine units for the care they provided to Maxine.
