7 March 2011SIOUX CITY -- Grace Ann Steffe, 83, of Sioux City passed away March 1, 2011, in Arizona.
Services will be 11 a.m. Wednesday at St. Mark Lutheran Church, with the Rev. John Hagberg officiating. Burial will be in Memorial Park Cemetery. Visitation will be 4 to 8 p.m. Tuesday, with a prayer service at 6:30 p.m., at the church. Christy-Smith Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.
Grace was born on Sept. 11, 1927, in Winnebago, Neb., to Benard and Irene (Brummund) Pointer. She grew up and attended school in Winnebago. She came to Sioux City in 1943, and had been a resident here ever since.
She married Calvin Steffe on Nov 9, 1946, in Elk Point, S.D. He passed away Nov. 14, 2005. Grace held various jobs prior to her marriage. After her marriage she was a devoted wife, mother and grandmother and a great cook. She was also like a mother and grandmother to several other people.
She was a charter member of St. Mark Lutheran Church, involved in the Leah Circle, teaching Sunday school and Prayer Shawl Ministry. Grace enjoyed any family gathering, gardening, rock and shell collecting, crocheting, attending sporting and music events of her children and grandchildren, fall foilage, fishing with husband, Cal, and playing Yahtzee with Barb. She also was an avid reader and delivered for Meals on Wheels.
Survivors include daughter, Shirley Steffe and Michael Chartier of Clive, Iowa, son, Ben and Nancy Steffe, daughter, DeeEtta Riley and Pat Cheever, and daughter Dawn and Bob Cooper, all of Sioux City; grandchildren, Erick and Mo Riley, Charlie and Molly Riley, Danny Cooper and Brittni Strom and Stephanie Cooper, all of Sioux City, Dustin and Gretchen Cooper of Gilbert, Ariz., Amanda and Jon Bellis of Ankeny, Iowa, and Brock and Heather Cooper of Mesa, Ariz.; great-grandchildren, Jade, Dylan, Ella, Hanna and Zakary Riley, Nicole and Lucas Bellis, Cali Grace, Caroline, Denver and Ava Cooper; two sisters-in-law, Betty and Daisy Pointer; several cousins, nieces and nephews; and special friend, Barb Huser.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Cal; three brothers, Richard, Henry and Roy; and two sisters, Viola and Dorothy.
Memorials may be directed to the family or St. Mark Church.
Mother Grace will truly be missed by all who knew and loved her.
