SIOUX CITY -- Thomas F. Vaughan, 85, of Sioux City passed away unexpectedly Friday, April 22, 2011, at a Sioux City hospital.

Services will be 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church, with the Rev. Monsignor Roger Augustine officiating. Private family entombment will be in Calvary Cemetery Mausoleum. Visitation will be 4 to 8 p.m. Monday, with the family present 6 to 8 p.m., and a vigil service at 7 p.m., at Meyer Brothers Colonial Chapel. Tom was born Feb. 18, 1926, in Sioux City, the son of Edward B. and Clair (Noonan) Vaughan. He grew up in Sioux City, attended Blessed Sacrament Grade School and then graduated from Central High School in 1944. He joined the U.S. Navy and served during World War II. Following the service, he attended the University of Iowa and was a member of the Phi Kappa Psi Fraternity.

Tom married Betty L. Kirkendall on July 17, 1950, in Sioux City. She died April 16, 1993, in Sioux City. Tom later married Betty Koithan on Dec. 24, 1994, in Sioux City.

Tom operated Tom's Hut at 27th and Pierce Street in the 1950s, then went to work for Noonan Implement. He later worked for Batcheller's Farm Store and then was general manager at J-D-D Lubricants. This led to his founding of FIMCO in 1966, which he owned and operated for many years.

He was a member of Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church. He was currently serving on the board of directors of Wells Fargo Bank, a position he held for more than 30 years. He had also served on the board of Briar Cliff University and the Holy Spirit Retirement Home and had chaired several fundraising drives for them. He served on the board of the Sioux City Country Club and the Sioux City Chamber of Commerce. He was vice president of the Iowa Manufacturers Association and was active in the Siouxland Foundation. Tom was an accomplished golfer, and he enjoyed gardening. He was a fan of Notre Dame Football and the New York Yankees.

Survivors include his wife, Betty of Sioux City; his children, Thomas E. "Tim" Vaughan of Sioux City, Terry Vaughan and his wife, Laura of Dakota Dunes, Kevin Vaughan and his wife, Teri of Jefferson, S.D., Carolyn Waring and her husband, Dr. Patrick Waring of Atlanta, Ga., Karee Blumhardt and her husband, Tom of Overland Park, Kan., Kathy Hamers and her husband, Bob of Danbury, Iowa, Carma Brouillette and her husband, Doug of Danbury, Iowa, and Jim Koithan and his wife, Jenny of Houston, Texas; his grandchildren, Farrah Hassebroek and her husband, Thad, Kerri and J.J. White, Patrick Vaughan and his special friend, Molly Backman, Thomas Francis Vaughan II, Collin, Rhett and Nash Chalup, Collin and Owen Vaughan, Molly, Elizabeth, John and Patrick Waring, Brian and Alyssa Blumhardt, Michelle and Amy Hamers, Brad and James Brouillette, Kylie and Cameron Koithan; and his great-grandchildren, Hunter and Ava Hassebroek, Jake and Mia White and Brooklyn Vaughan.

He was preceded in death by his parents, and his first wife, Betty.

Pallbearers will be Patrick Vaughan, Thomas Francis Vaughan II, Joseph Vaughan, Brad and James Brouillette, Stephen and Brian Blumhardt.
