ANTHON, Iowa -- Joyce Maxine Brown, 92, of Anthon died on April 18, 2011, at Correctionville Nursing and Rehab Center in Correctionville, Iowa.

Services will be 10:30 a.m. Thursday at United Methodist Church in Anthon, with the Rev. Ben Wilson officiating. Burial will be in Oak Hill Cemetery, Anthon. Visitation will be after 3 p.m. today, with the prayer service at 7 p.m., at Armstrong Funeral Home in Anthon. A service conducted by the Anthon Legion Auxiliary will follow the prayer service.

Joyce Maxine (Robinson) Brown was born to Anna (McAllister) Robinson and Garf Robinson on Aug. 20, 1918, at Lone Rock, Iowa. At the age of 5, she moved with her family to Battle Creek, Iowa. She graduated from Battle Creek High School in 1936. She then attended business school in Grand Island, Neb. Upon completion of her education, she became a bookkeeper for Iowa Master Breeders Hatchery in Onawa, Iowa, for six months and then transferred to their hatchery in Yankton, S.D. In 1939, she returned to her home and went to work at the Soil Conservation Office in Ida Grove, Iowa, until her marriage to Paul Brown in 1943.

The couple farmed in the Anthon vicinity until 1957, when they moved into Anthon. She then went to work in Don Diamond's variety store for approximately 10 years. She also took over the Anthon Benefit Association in 1959 and was secretary of that organization for 24 years. Mr. Brown passed away on Dec. 7, 1989. Mrs. Brown lived in Correctionville Nursing and Rehab for five years.

Mrs. Brown was a member of the Anthon United Methodist Church, the United Methodist Women, the Anthon Senior Citizen Group, the Royal Neighbor Lodge, and the Anthon Auxiliary. She loved to play cards, attend the Anthon senior dinners, and see her grandchildren.

Survivors include two daughters, Pamela and her husband, Merle Fowler of South Sioux City, and Pat and her husband, David Burow of Correctionville; six grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; seven great-great-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews; and many friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; three brothers; and four sisters-in-law.
