SIOUX CITY -- Edward John Sokolowski, 85 years young, formerly of Sioux City passed away peacefully at his home on Thursday, April 14, 2011.

Service will be 11 a.m. Monday at Our Lady of Assumption Church in Claremont, Calif. A private interment will be in Riverside National Cemetery.

The youngest of 10 children, he was born in Danbury, Iowa, on Oct. 17, 1925. He was an Air Corps Veteran of World War II and boxed as a welterweight fighter with the Golden Glove Boxers of Sioux City.

He married Joyce Eddy in 1948 and they moved their family to California in 1956. He worked in sales throughout his career.

He loved coaching and gave many hours to youth baseball. Ed developed a love for golf and became an avid player throughout his life.

Edward is survived by his wife of 63 years, Joyce; his brother, George; five sons, Dave, Steve, Stan, Bob, Paul; two daughters, Linda and Connie; 11 grandchildren, Kim, Brian, Sara, Mike, Robin, Bobby, Hanna, Kenny, Jake, Kirsten, and Katherine; and two great-grandchildren, Jaden and Elizabeth.

Though not here physically, his love and spirit will live within us forever.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to VNA Hospice of Claremont.
