SIOUX CITY -- Eldon A. Von Hagel, 82, of Sioux City passed away Wednesday, April 13, 2011, at a local hospital.

Services will be 10:30 a.m. Saturday at Faith Lutheran Church, with the Rev. Ralph Shorey officiating. Burial will be in Memorial Park Cemetery. Visitation will be 4 to 8 p.m. today, with the family present 6 to 8 p.m. and a prayer service at 7 p.m., at Meyer Brothers Colonial Chapel. Online condolences can be sent to meyerbroschapels.com.

Eldon, the son of Albert and Minnie (Hitzemann) Von Hagel, was born March 10, 1929, in Akron, Iowa. He received his education in the Akron schools. Eldon worked for a short time in Los Angeles prior to his marriage.

He married Lois Heyl on June 23, 1952, in Minnesota. The couple resided in Sioux City all of their marriage. Eldon retired from Blue Cross/Blue Shield in 1986 after 30 years with the company.

He was an avid fisherman and hunter, shooting his last deer at age 80. He enjoyed spending winters in Arizona with Lois. Eldon was a member of Faith Lutheran Church, where he was a charter member and served on several boards.

Eldon is survived by his wife, Lois Von Hagel of Sioux City; one son, Tom (Patricia) Von Hagel of Chicago, Ill.; one daughter, Carol (Tom) Garvey of Sioux City; four grandchildren; and many special nephews and nieces.

He was preceded in death by his parents and three brothers, Donald, Wayne and Paul.
