MOVILLE, Iowa -- Willard A. Countryman, 84, of Moville passed away Thursday, April 14, 2011, at his residence surrounded by his family.

Services will be 11 a.m. today at Moville United Methodist Church, with the Rev. Ed Frank officiating. Burial will be in Arlington Township Cemetery. Arrangements are under the direction of McCulloch Chapel, Christy-Smith Funeral Home in Moville. Condolences may be sent online to www.christysmith.com.

Willard Andrew was born March 12, 1927, on a farm near Moville, the son of Delbert and Millie (Hendricks) Countryman. He attended country school and graduated from Moville High School in 1943.

Willard married Lois Bolles on Dec. 28, 1950, in Sioux City. He farmed until the mid 1980s, when he started doing carpenter work and woodworking. Willard built their home in Moville.

Willard loved spending time with his children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren and all of their activities. He restored a Model A and the first tractor he ever owned, a 60 Oliver. He also enjoyed gardening and watching baseball, particularly the Cleveland Indians.

He was a member of Moville United Methodist Church and a past member of Meadows Golf Course.

Survivors include his wife, Lois Countryman of Moville; four children and their spouses, Vicki and Craig McElrath, Susanne and Kelly Weaver, and Tracy and Jan Countryman, all of Moville and Amy and Brad Walker of Sergeant Bluff; 11 grandchildren, Ryan McElrath and special friend, Christina, Adam and Kelly McElrath, Luke McElrath, Tiffany and Jason Manker, Dax and Randi Weaver, T and Holli Countryman, April Countryman and special friend, Aaron, Jenna Countryman, Christopher Countryman, Spencer Walker, and Anna Walker; 10 great-grandchildren, Addison and Alexa McElrath, Miah and Jase Manker, Julian Weaver, Keaton, Kennedy and Kennison Countryman, Gracie and Quinn Van Roekel; three sisters, Fern Kumpula of Correctionville, Iowa, Delores Harrison of Sioux Center, Iowa, and Marilyn Breffle of Ankeny, Iowa; nieces and nephews; other relatives; and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Delbert J. and Millie Countryman; three brothers, Lloyd, Donald and Lawrence Countryman; and two brothers-in-law, Melvin Kumpula and Morie Harrison.
