SIOUX CITY -- Julia L. Freeman, 86, of Sioux City passed away April 10, 2011, at a local hospital from complications due to diabetes.

Services will be 11 a.m. Wednesday at St. Luke Lutheran Church, with the Rev. David Cox officiating. Burial will be in Memorial Park Cemetery. Visitation will be 4 to 8 p.m. today, with the family present 6 to 8 p.m., at Morningside Chapel, Christy-Smith Funeral Home. Condolences may be sent online to www.christysmith.com.

Julia was born April 13, 1924, in Sioux City, to Marvin and Opal (Coombs) Gunderson. She grew up and attended Sioux City schools, graduating from East High School in 1942.

She married Mark A. Freeman on Aug. 7, 1943, in California. He passed away on July 25, 1986, in Sioux City. Julia was a life long resident of Sioux City. She worked for Drs. Krigsten, Blenderman and Dougherty, from which she retired in 1984.

She was a member of St. Luke Lutheran Church, where she was involved in the adult choir, was a Sunday School teacher and member of both the Rachel and Mary Circles. She loved writing letters and having phone conversation with family and friends. Her family and friends were the primary interest in her life.

Survivors include her son, Mark Alan Freeman of Sioux City; a daughter, Kathy and Dave Van Gundy of Des Moines; eight grandchildren; 18 great-grandchildren; and nine great-great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husband; her parents; a daughter, Christine Daisey; and two sisters, Patricia Boltz and Billie Asmussen.
